Is apple cider vinegar good for hair?
It most certainly is! Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is the most gentle way to remove synthetic hair products, so you can begin your natural hair care journey.
The very first step to begin this journey is to do an apple cider vinegar rinse on your hair, so you can make a fresh start, without damaging your hair.

Natural Shampoo Bar
When you make the switch from SLS (Sodium Lauryl or Laureth Sulfate) shampoo products to a natural shampoo bar, it is critical to do an apple cider vinegar hair detox. What this means, is you are simply removing the artificial greases in hair conditioners that stay on your hair.
When you have been using regular SLS shampoo and it's conditioner counterpart, here's what you actually do:
You wash your hair with a detergent that strips your hair of oil. This includes the oils your body naturally produces to keep your hair healthy and your last shampooing's hair conditioner. If you pay attention, your hair feels dry and stiff after it has been shampooed, before you apply the "conditioner".
The product called "conditioner" is an artificial grease that coats each individual hair. This artificial grease ("conditioner"), attracts moisture from the air and attaches it to each hair, along with the "conditioner". This makes your hair feel heavy and it takes a long time to dry. This hair care method will also give your hair volume and shine.
The downside, is these chemical ingredients will absorb through your scalp, and leave small chemical deposits on your vital organs, causing you problems as you age.
Apple Cider Vinegar is special
Natural Hair Care
Is vinegar good for your hair? The short answer is yes, vinegar is good for your hair. It is key that you use Apple Cider Vinegar.
While other vinegars are fabulous in culinary applications and also have good nutrition, apple cider vinegar is unique in it's nutritional structure, which is why it works on hair.
How apple cider vinegar works on hair is it gently adjusts your hair ph to bring the ph down a bit. This will gently remove the artificial ingredients from your old hair conditioner and rinse it off.
Once your hair is free from chemical ingredients in hair conditioners, the hair repair process begins and you are ready to transition to a natural shampoo bar.
As a home remedy for dandruff, apple cider vinegar will remove scalp flakes, while repairing scalp damage. Be aware, that if the dandruff is severe, this is a long slow process, and your scalp make sting a bit with the apple cider application.
Notes on using apple cider vinegar on your hair
How often?
Apple cider is good for split end repair and will also add some shine to dull hair. ACV hair rinse is a simple task, requiring only a few drops of vinegar that you can apply as often as once a week, depending on your hair type and your hair and scalp needs.
The ACV detox method below is to remove artificial hair conditioner from your hair.
We recommend doing this detox one time before your 1st time using a natural shampoo bar. It is not necessary or recommended to do this before every shampooing.
I am assuming, if you have made the choice to go to natural hair care, you will not go back to artificial hair care. If you do, by chance, then you will want to repeat the detox again when you choose the natural method again.

How often you should do an acv rinse, depends on your hair and scalps needs.

For oily to normal hair you may want to do an ACV rinse once every 6 months or even once a year.
Check your combs and hair brushes to see how much dust, dirt and scalp dirt you are leaving in your hair care tools.
If there is a lot of debris, you may need to do an ACV rinse more often. Experiment to figure how frequently an acv rinse is good for your hair's needs.

Treat your hair right
Apple cider vinegar for hair has great benefits for your scalp and hair. However, it is possible to do an apple cider vinegar hair cleanse too often. This will give the appearance of over conditioned hair making it very flat, and sometimes, a bit heavy.
Once or twice a year, an apple cider vinegar on hair will provide some B vitamins and Vitamin C. It will also gently exfoliate the skin on your scalp, assisting with dandruff issues.
