Shampoo definition: soap formulated for hair

Natural Shampoo

What is a shampoo bar? A natural shampoo bar is a bar soap, formulated for for hair. The best shampoo bar will gently clean your hair while making it shine.

Natural shampoo, like natural soap, is saponified oil, and possibly some essential oils for added hair care properties and gentle aroma.

how to use shampoo bars

Step 1: Cleanse

How you use a shampoo bar is slightly different than washing your hair with commercial surfactant shampoos.

If you've been using conditioner or shampoo with lots of ingredients, it is a good idea to give your hair a gentle cleanse with an apple cider vinegar rinse prior to shampooing with a natural shampoo bar.

Apple Cider Vinegar for Hair

How to use a solid shampoo

1st Time Instructions

A natural shampoo bar, should be non-caustic, meaning very gentle, Castile soap. A properly formulated olive oil shampoo bar will leave your hair very soft and full bodied.

  • Do not oil hair prior to washing for the 1st time with Ithaca Soap Olive Oil Shampoo Bar.
  • Do not use other brand's conditioner or other hair care products.

They may contain artificial ingredients that remain on your hair, causing our gentle shampoo to struggle to get it off.

What you may have been washing your hair with is a synthetic shampoo gel, which is micro plastics and caustic detergent. This type of "shampoo" will strip out conditioners, that are usually artificial grease suspended in liquid vinyl.

Once you use a natural shampoo bar, you will have truly clean hair, less hair loss and 2-3 times faster dry time.

Wash hair once or twice per shampooing. That's it. Save money and hot water.

Take the shampoo bar and gently rub it on your hair and scalp. Lather up!

Then take a little bit of apple cider vinegar and sprinkle on your finger tips and evenly distribute through your wet hair. Rinse.

Wash your hair again with the Shampoo Bar. Rinse.

Different shampoo methods for the seasons

Wendy's Method (s)

Number 1.

Twice a year, do an apple cider vinegar cleanse before shampooing. Click here for the instructions.

Summer: Get in the shower and wet hair thoroughly. Rub the shampoo bar on your scalp, making sure th get the front, sides and back of your head, including your neck.

Then hold the shampoo bar in one hand, and your hair in the other, and rub the bar along your hair.

If necessary add a bit more water to your hair. Scrub your scalp. This should create a good lather.

If your hair is long, pile it on top of your head and lather it up.

If the lather disappears, it is full of excess dirt and oils.

Rinse and repeat. The 2nd shampooing should be much more sudsy.

Add a bit of oil sometimes

Wendy's Method #2

Once a month or more, depending on your hair's needs, add some oil before you get in the shower. Wendy prefers olive oil. Pick the oil of your choice.

Place a drop or 2 of olive oil on your finger tips and evenly distribute it in your hair.

Shampoo using method one above. Towel dry.

A variation of this is to apply a few drops of olive oil after shampooing, and after you towel dry.

A little bit of beeswax lip balm goes a long way

Lip Balm on Hair??

Wendy's Method #3:

In Colder months and throughout the North East Winter, the best hair conditioner is to apply some beeswax lip balm after shampooing.
