A few of the lip balm scents / flavors were things Wendy and Andy did not think of. They were customer suggestions. People are full of ideas. Like buying in bulk. Another good idea, and something Wendy and Andy personally, do.
When you run a small business, one skill to hone in on, is to listen. You get the pulse of what’s fresh and on peoples minds. We live in the information age, and it flows like a swift moving river. Sometimes it’s like an ocean tidal wave. Sifting through all of the information can be overwhelming at times. Sometimes it’s a blur. Once in a while, something spectacular crosses your path.
Stocking up on something you love, is like insurance. Life’s simple pleasures provide a feeling of stability in uncertain times.

The number 41 symbolizes making a commitment.
The beeswax lip balm has undergone a few names. 17th Century Lip Balm was the 1st name that had no ring or rhythm. After Ithaca Soap was branded, the brand was extended to the lip balm. That seemed logical to Andy and Wendy, but was very confusing to shoppers. Even though it looked like lip balm, many people asked the confused question, “Is this soap or lip balm?”.
Then “advisors”, advised Andy and Wendy to get a team together to brainstorm a name. It was a really fun project. They picked 5 people to work with them, totaling 7 on the team. It was all done through a group text. The people picked were successful in their own businesses, were excellent wordsmiths, and lip balm users. Everyone came to consensus with LiXTiK…except Wendy. It was cute, it rolled off the tongue, it had double entendre, and letters that fit the logo font. But something didn’t sit right with her. Anyway, she was outvoted, and LiXTiK stuck.
Getting a lot of something you love, is symbolic of commitment. Great for party favors, and showing your commitment to those who support you.

The number 42 symbolizes getting over the hump of a struggle.
Soap is a picky item for many people. You want something that actually works, is not irritating, is available when you want it, and is exactly the same as the last bar you used. Sometimes you simply want a lot of something without all of the pomp. No Boxes. Just soap. Sounds like a nice idea, but grocery store shelves and outdoor venues are dirty places. Soap attracts dirt and Andy’s beautiful soap bars would quickly look like dirty, unattractive soap. Quite a few people began to ask for Unboxed bars. They wanted to get a bunch of bars of soap and put them in the closet, so they don’t have to worry about getting it every few weeks (in Ithaca Soap's case, 1 bar gets up to 84 showers).
That’s when Andy and Wendy decided to offer a batch of soap to order, without the boxes. They are packed in a cardboard bulk box, so all you have to do is reach in and grab a bar when you need it. As close to zero waste as you can get.
Stocking up on soap may seem silly, but it could give a sense of stability. One less thing to worry about. By exercising your free will, it is best to do it with grace and style.

Andy and Wendy both had separate intentions when they began this venture. Wendy wanted the perfect bar of soap; the one she thought she found that disappeared forever. Andy wanted the math to work, so they could share this soapy collaboration with others. They then set out on the journey and ended up here. Their intentions were met.
Having a Batch of Bar Soap Boxed may seem excessive. Boxes serve the purpose of protecting what’s inside. But there are other purposes. A boxed bar of soap can be used as an air freshener, with the box protecting it from attracting dirt and dust. Having a supply of boxed bar soap is a great way to grab a last minute small gift to let someone know you are thinking of them or thanking them for hosting a gathering. It’s a nice gift for a co-worker. A holiday gift for your post person, babysitter, your grandmother, the neighbor next door.
