In the early 2000's Wendy thought about packing the liquid soap in a paperboard carton. After many hours on the phone, she discovered that paper cartons are coated in polypropylene. This coating reduces the recycling effectiveness by grinding the coating into micro plastic.

Discernment is a very useful skill. Trends, large and small, effect judgement. Ithaca Soap went out on the road, doing craft shows, art shows, and a couple of music festivals. It was a good time. The economy was in the right place for all of the travel to be beneficial. Then  one day, it changed. It was no longer a good idea to have multiple show locations at one time. Costs went up, while income remained stable. That equals a loss. They stayed home, going to the Ithaca Farmers Market and built a website. Then another show opportunity opened up, and they took it for 3 years.

At that time, Wendy was learning to naturally dye wool  with plant dyes, so they went to the New York Sheep and Wool Festival. Patchouli  Instant Liquid Soap is an excellent wool moth deterrent. It was a wonderful time, until things changed again, and it was no longer beneficial to go through all of the work and expense to go to a wonderfully fun craft show.
